Directory of Watershed Resources

The Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection website contains a searchable database of financial assistance sources (grants, loans, cost-sharing) available to fund a variety of watershed protection projects.  Criteria searches include the type of organization (e.g., non-profit groups, private landowner, state, business), type of assistance sought (grants or loans), and keywords (e.g., agriculture, wildlife habitat).

Beyond information on federal funding sources retrievable from the database, a variety of other resources are available for financial and technical assistance for projects related to water quality.  This page http://cfpub.epa.gov/fedfund/othersources.cfm lists publications and organizations that might be useful in securing other sources of Funding.  They are classified under two main sub-headings: Private, Nonprofit Sources and Other Federal Sources, and are listed alphabetically under each.

This EPA fact sheet is a useful tool to help munitipalities understand alternative funding mechnism for fudning their stormwater program. The most stable source of funding is generally the stormwater utility, so this document briefly lists the various funding alternatives then describes in more detail the three different types of stormwater utility rate structures and the basic steps involved in creating a stormwater utility.

The Co-Funding Initiative was designed to assist communities grappling with water and sewer infrastructure projects.  This website contains brief descriptions of water and sewer government funding programs, a detailed presentation on water and sewer project planning and financing, a questionnaire that informs you which funding programs your project may be eligible for, and the Co-funding Initiative Memo of Understanding.

Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection
cfpub.epa.gov/fedfund

The Environmental Finance Center at Boise State University has created a searchable database for watershed restoration funding.  The database includes information on funding programs available for federal, state (Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maryland, W. Virginia, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Arkansas, Missouri, Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Alaska), private, and other funding sources.  Users can query the information in a variety of ways including agency sponsor, keyword, or by a detailed search.  At the end of a query, a brief description of each matching program will be displayed.  When a specific program is selected, a detailed page of that program will be displayed and can be printed.
